The journal is edited by the Brazilian Association of Journalism Researchers, which primarily finances its publication.

BJR also receives support from the following public funding agencies in Brazil: National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).

BJR does not receive any type of private funding.
